# Publish where people search
Being the reference · practice · https://build-here.africa/book/chapters/10-06-publish-where-people-search.html

## The starting point

A useful resource exists. The people who need it cannot find it.

## The move

Publish where your readers already look, in the words they use.

## Why it works

A resource nobody finds does not exist. People search in a search engine, a messaging group, a professional network, the tool they open every morning, and more and more by asking an AI. If your resource is in none of those places, it will not be read.

A sheet explains how to fix an incomplete file. Its title uses the word the team who wrote it uses; newcomers search for "missing document". Changing the title and adding a link from the welcome instructions is enough to make it findable.

In public, a well-titled page gets found by search engines and by the AI assistants that answer people's questions. Write a title that is a real question, a first sentence that answers it, and an address that will not change.

Announce it where your readers already are. A post in the right network or the right group sends more readers than a good title alone.

## Try this

Ask someone it is for where they would look for the answer, without giving them the link. Note their words and their route.

Fix the title, add entry links, publish where they looked. Do it again with someone else.

## To discuss

By what route does a reader actually find our most useful resource?
