⇄ A roadmap nobody may refuse is a queue

What you are asking for

A roadmap is agreed. An important customer asks for an urgent adaptation. You add it to protect the relationship.

What the system hears

“Nothing is removed. Both commitments hold in the same timeframe.”

What that produces

The problem with one more request is its hidden cost: other work slips, a check disappears, the load rises, and nobody decided it. The team pays in silence, then ships late what you had promised elsewhere.

Your own ideas do the same. A suggestion in a corridor becomes a priority if your role gives it weight. Say whether you are exploring or deciding.

An autonomous team has to be able to say no, propose another date, or ask what comes out. If it can only say yes, your roadmap is a queue, and the team knows it.

A bespoke adaptation keeps costing after delivery: maintenance, training, support. Count it before you say yes.

The decision

→ For every significant addition, get the urgency and its consequences stated. Say what it replaces, or the extra means it brings. Confirm the dates with the team before you promise the customer a date.

→ Put your own ideas through the same criteria as everyone else’s.

→ At the next review, compare the real load to what was planned.
