Ownership

I organise what comes next and learn from the result

You’re done when the result is checked.

You shipped the new payment page. Support sends it to customers. A month later, nobody knows whether the questions went down. The work is done. Nobody is following the result.

Ownership means being clear about what you’re taking on, how far, and who picks it up next. It means coming back to look. Breaking bad news early. Owning a bad outcome without mistaking it for a bad decision.

A clean handover is part of the job.

To start: go back to something you shipped last month. What did it change?

To go further: on a topic several people share, ask who answers for it. If you have to go looking, nobody does.

If you’re growing a team: if you ask for outcomes but review activity, activity is what you’ll get. The ⇄ cards cover this.

A sign it’s working: everyone knows what was agreed, who owns the next step, and when to look at the result.

Next: systems, for when the same problem comes back.
